HGV and CPC Training Courses

A job in the HGV industry sector is in high demand these days, because of the good rates of pay and the fact that there is never a lack of work for HGV drivers.

But a lot of people who apply for a job in this sector do go about it the right way, and end up disappointed and jobless. This is because they do not take the proper measures to get good HGV training, CPC training as well as a working experience beforehand.

An HGV company manager doesn’t want to hire someone as a driver who has no valid HGV license or any previous experience. You still stand a chance of getting hired as many fleet companies do offer some training before the driver starts the job. But your chances will be considerably higher if you already have some experience and you have taken some driver training courses.

Some basic things which will be covered in an HGV training course include driving skills, loading and securing goods for transportation, and the basic mechanics of a bigger vehicle.

HGV instructors and CPC instructors are usually trucks drivers themselves, or at least they will have some past experience in the industry. This is important because if the instructors have no working knowledge of how it is on the road, then they will not be able to properly prepare you for what you can expect.

Usually the course will consist of the trainer sitting next to you, and you doing all the driving. In this way the trainer will be able to explain what you are doing right, or wrong and give you tips as you go. Of course the trainer can break or intervene at any time in case you are doing something potentially hazardous.

You will also learn essential details like how to check oil levels, locate fire extinguishers, use the first-aid kit, check your truck before driving to ensure its safety, etc. This is all information which aside from driving is very important when you get on the road. You must be prepared for any eventuality.

Your final exam will cover all of these things, but mostly is will center on your driving abilities, in traffic, and parking, etc. It will cover all the practical things you will need to know, so make sure you feel ready before you take the exam, otherwise you will waste money, and time.  Safety is an extremely important aspect of HGV training, not only for yourself but for the safety of others on the road.
